Question:

How hard is it to major in music?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It's not super hard to get the number of credit hours to be a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Bacherlor of Music is substantially more hours. If you want to double major, as I am, I suggest the BA. [I'm doing BA Music and BA Business, as opposed to BM Vocal Performance and BS (Bachelor of Science) Marketing.]

Just course-wise, it varies widely by school, professor, and your own personal aptitude. I suck at Music Theory, so that class is super frustrating for me, even though our professor is brilliant and really a nice guy. Music History wasn't that great, but the professor graded so easy that I got an A in the class. But I LOVE my voice teacher and the performance end, so I like putting the effort into that, even though it's only a 2 hour course.

Visit the schools you're looking into and ask to meet with either a member of Mu Phi Epsilon (co-ed national professional Music fraternity) or just a music major in your field (performance, education, composition, therapy, etc.). They can better tell you how the music major works at that university.

Good luck!
