Suggestions for buying Drums?

i am planning on learning how to play the drums i was thinking of getting a gretsch blackhawk but i read that it wasnt the greatest. can anyone give me some suggestions on wat drum set i should get for a reasonable price

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I would reccomend anything around $500, make sure the cymbals are included (unless you're willing to put in an extra $300 or so)
Get a 5 piece set if possible: 2 rack toms, 1 floor tom, base, and snare.
A lot of companies that generally make expensive drums have a beginner and intermediate line-that's what you're looking for since it's made by a good/known manufacturer.
Some names: Pearl, Tama, Ludwig, Gretsch, Mapex, Yamaha, Sonor, DW's-good but expnesive...and that's about it. ddrum's have a lot of drums and aren't too expensive, but remember that the quality is not the best....

oh and VERY important....if the set doesn't bring all the 3 cymbals (crash, ride, and hi-hats) but only the hats and a crash or ride, it's ok since you might be replacing them eventually and getting something that fits what you like playing. Remember that if they come with the set, they won't be the best, but it works if you're learning....and make sure you get an instructor...good luck
