What is a good way to learn acoustic guitar by yourself?

i got an acoustic/amp for christmas and really am trying hard to learn how to play. i have a good music backround.... but guitar is the one instrument that im actually struggling to pick up. do you know of any books/methods for learning?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Go to a reputable music store and buy a guitar chord book that has basic music theory in it. It can teach you notation and some simple melodies--probably old tunes dating back to the 1800s, but they work.

They will also have the chord names above the appropriate note changes. There is much to concentrate upon in guitar, but chords, rhythm, and basic theory should be your immediate goal.

That is the way I learned over 50 years ago.
