Question:

What're the best strings for violin?

I've been playing the violin for three and a half years. The strings I have are excellent, but I'd like to restring it. I play classical (not fiddle) and would like strings that have a rich, well-toned and beautiful sound. What would you reccomend?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I wouldn't recommend gut strings as they go out of tune very easily and if you're doing concerts that can be a bit of a pain! I have some reallllly nice ones on my violin called 'Eva pirazzi' they're not over the top expensive, they're synthetic from the make of 'pirastro'. They make a wonderful sound, rich tone and stay in tact for ages!

If you live in the UK, a good place to get them is www.stringmail.co.uk - you could try it from the States, i'm not sure.
