Question:

Preschool and Early Elementary-Aged Church Choir?

I have been asked to help with the children's choir at church, ages 3-8. Does anyone have any suggestions for activities and/or anthems for this age range. It is a small choir (about 10 or so children). I have worked with preschool choirs before, just not elementary age. Pretty much starting from scratch as far as singing/breathing techniques and musical/rythmic reading si concerned. Thank you!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Many people suggest teaching them a latin hymn in unison, so that you can teach them the language correctly- especially with good vowels. Remember that much of singing in tune is singing the same vowel at the same time- harder than it sounds- so if you start with a good latin piece and a good fun piece, like this little light of mine, you'll be on your why to guiding them to a good sound.
