Question:

I want a career in voice overs. How should I start? Any great, cheap lessons in the NJ NY area?

I graduated from Rutgers early this year, so I have a degree in Journalism. I focused on TV Reporting, and my professor took me aside to ask me if I thought about a career with my voice. He told me I'd be perfect for voiceovers. But I have so much college debt, I've been looking for office jobs in Journalism or film and it's IMPOSSIBLE unless you know someone, and I work long hours as a waitress, so it's hard to get the ball rolling especially since I don't know the best way to start working on a decent demo. I heard I should get coaching first, just for background lessons. Any ideas on the best places to learn and do a demo, taking my large amount of debt into account? Thank You!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: you answered part of your own question, find some one that you know and trust that is in marketing and advertising, they should know people in recording studios , and then use that as a spring board to where-ever you want to go, dont keep harping on your debt, if you are any good the money will follow, may be not at first but keep trying. network everywhere and everyone, even as an emcee in a night club atmosphere that does stand up-- some one has to intro the acts work from there--good luck
