Question:

Is it ok to sing gospel professionally if you're white?

I'm not joking even though some of you are probably laughing. If I have a good voice will people still laugh at me? Will anyone be offended if I do this? Serious advice only please, I appreciate your thoughts, I've tried to sing everything else and all I want to do is sing gospel, I love it and it's where my heart is.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Of course, but that means that you're aiming for a mostly black audiance, so I'd advice you now if you haven't started making connections in black churchs to start doing so. I'm white and have been in black gospel choirs, and have attended their services, and in music they see no color- they're very receptive to everyone. But like every aspect of music, it's a group where knowledge and connections equal advancement. You'll want to know a lot of gospel and R&B Music, and you'll especially want to know and become friends with local church and community leaders- because these people are especially powerful and influencial in the black community and can really help you find some connections in moving to a professional career.
