Question:

What kind of day job should I look for?

I'm trying to start an opera career, but I will still need a day job as my career gets started. What kind of job would allow me to this? I would need to...

...be able to leave for one or two months at a time.
...possibly work remotely for one or two months at a time.
...have flexible hours.

Some of the better gigs have rehearsals during the day, which means a normal 9-to-5 job is out. Also, I may get hired to do a gig out of town, which means I would need to leave for a month, then come back and be able to step back into the job again.

I have a degree in Computer Engineering.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Have you contacted any temporary staffing firms in your area? You want one that specializes in placing computer specialists. The nice part is you can work short or long term assignments that coordinate with your gigs. I signed up with three agencies in my area and I let them know when I'll be back in town. You want assignments that will let you keep up with your computer skills but not have you talking on the phone all day (so you can take care of your voice).
