Question:

What should i do to improve my singing voice?

I really want to have a better sound when i sing. I'm only 15 and my voice hasn't really started changing drastically, its changed a little bit, but not much. My dad has a really good voice and i hope once my voice changes ill sound like him but as of now its not great. What can i do / eat to make m voice sound better.

*i heard that drinking glasses of maple syrup everyday improves it is that true?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I've never heard the maple syrup thing, and the above answerer is correct, anything syrup-y only coats your throat and makes it harder for you to sing. Nothing you eat or drink will actually touch your vocal chords, as they are in your windpipe and food/drink doesn't pass that way (you'd choke if it did). Still, I advocate drinking lots of room temperature water to keep your body well hydrated, as then your chords will get the same benefit the rest of your body gets from being hydrated.

Especially in these years when your voice is making big changes, you MUST get a good voice teacher to teach you good technique, especially if you're wanting to eventually go pro or semi-pro. You can ask the choir teacher at your school to suggest someone who teaches in the area, or try www.nats.org. Even if you don't want to sing classical repetoire, your teacher will probably begin with more classical technique to give you a good foundation on which to build whatever style you want to sing. I've been classically trained for the past 7 or 8 years, and I'm now breaking into jazz and musical theater; it's a transition, but not too difficult.

Good luck. Get a voice teacher!!
