What's the difference between a piccolo snare and a regular snare?

What's the difference between a piccolo snare and a regular snare?

I'm a new drummer. I just inherited my Dad's old drumset and the snare drum is all busted up. I'm planning on replacing it and I wondering which type would be best.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: A piccolo snare is about 4 or 5 inches deep, a regular snare is twice as deep. For set, you want a regular snare drum.
