Question:

I am interested in doing voiceovers. What kind of voice samples should I include on my audition tape?

I am mainly interested in doing narration for instructional productions and documentaries, as well as the audiobook industry. I have several years radio announcing experience, but I don't think I have the ability to do radio commercials (too mellow a personality). Any advice anyone can give is MOST appreciated.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: A good start to get some demos would be to meet with some people who are in a marketing/advertising program at college. They are probably always looking for people to do voice overs for them and they may give you a copy of it so you can use it as a demo. Most of these arrangements are unpaid, so expect that demo to be your payment.
If you buy a microphone to connect into your computer and have the correct audio programs installed on your computer, you may be able to just record certain things yourself.
These voice samples can be you just reading sections from informational books... like text books or non-fiction books. Historical monologues would do well. Good luck!
