Being discovered?

I sing, and have been told by many people that I should take vocal lessons and get an agent. I don't have the money for an agent, and I'm not moving anywhere, but do you have some suggests on where I could sing and maybe be discovered.

By the way people say I sound like a mix of Regina Spektor, Mandy Moore, and Vanessa Carlton. I guess because Mandy and Vanessa are my favorite singers, and I just have always sounded like an unbritish Regina...

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You should try coffee shops. They are the most common places to hold concerts for newbies. Just go in to one in your area, not a Starbucks but just some hip little place and ask for the manager. Then tell him you want to set up a show and that it is your dream. After you play there a few times, people might start talking and you might get calls for bigger shows. Good luck!
