Question:

Vocal exercises for the bass/bass-baritone voice type?

A friend asked me if I could help him learn some basic vocal excercises and basic theory. I can help him with the theory but, I'm a soprano, so I'm pretty sure the excercises are different, what note would you start the scales on? would it start an octave or two below middle C or on a completly completely different note? Recommendations would be appreciated.

oh and to avoid confusion, please assume middle C on a piano is C4 and the number goes up or down depending on which note you are talking about.

I know that him getting a vocal teacher would be best for him, however he has said he can't get one at the moment.

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: For bass-baritones I usually start with the G on the bottom of the bass clef. (An octave below the one just below middle C.) I usually start with a five-note pattern: 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1.

Others I use:

1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-...

1-3-5-8-5-3-1

1-3-5-8-7-5-4-2-1

Usually on "Ah". I also do:

5-8-5-3-1

On "ee" to "ah" starting with middle C as the highest note, and going up.

I hope that all makes sense.
