Question:

Singing Audition..nervousness?

I have an audition tonight for the show "Children Of Eden". My nervousness gets the best of me when it comes to singing, so I force it and my vibrato becomes thick and uncomfortable. Any tips on keeping a relaxed singing voice during an audition?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: even though its probably a little late for you to see this answer before your audition, im going to give it to you anyway in hopes it will help you in the future :)
i am a singer, and therefore do a lot of perorming and i also suffer from stage fright, so i understand completely where you are coming from.
the best way to keep a relaxed voice is to be relaxed by doing anything you can to dispel the nerves. i find the best way to act/ sing well when nervous is to connect to what you are doing. when you begin to act your scene, focus in on what you are doing and enjoy it, because when a person is having fun whilst performing, even if the scene is depressing, the audience/ assessors will see and repond to this. Real passion will make your performance a milllion times more compelling than if you were to simply "go though the motions". Enjoying yourself works a treat, as it despels the nerves, therefore calming the uncontrollable vibrato.
looking above the heads of assessors while performing, the presence of a loved one, or doing a ridiculous drama warm-up exercise that makes you laugh are big helpers too.
