Question:

Magnet High School?

I'm a dancer/actor/singer at a local theatre in my home town. I want to go to a magnet performing arts school. All of my friends are going to a great high school. I'm at least one of the top20 dancers and top3 best actor at the studio. I want to go to this magnet school for dance and acting. What do I do? I want to be with my friends but I want to make my dream come true?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: NEVER give up your dreams just to be in the same place as your friends. If it doesn't happen now, it will happen when you are all ready to go off to college. It would be the same thing if all of your friends wanted to go to, say, a community college (not that there's ANYTHING wrong with that, don't get me wrong!) and you have the opportunity to go to Harvard or Yale, but you don't know if you want to go because you want to be with your friends.

If you REALLY want to follow your dream, then do it. Your friends will still be there for you, and with the internet, phone, txt and pix messaging, etc. there is no way you won't be able to keep in touch with them. It sounds like you won't be all that far away from them anyway. You might never see your friends even if you do go to the same high school. It's a whole new world from Middle School, and no matter what anyone says, sometimes things change between friends. It happens.

Follow your heart and ask yourself this: If I don't go to this school, how will I feel about my decision next year? Will you be miserable in a "regular" high school because you can't focus on what you love the way you could in a magnet program? If your answer is yes, then go for the magnet. Your friends will still be there, but the opportunity may not.

Good luck!
