Question:

Is it possible for someone to teach themselves how to sing?

I REALLY want to try out for my school musical. Not because I want a career in acting though, but because they are doing a great movie, High School Musical. I don't think I can sing though. My brother has heard me sing as says that I'm okay, but I can't really trust my brother. I'm not sure if he can tell the difference between good and bad singing.

I think I sound okay in the shower, but I want to sound better. I want to be able to hit high notes(my voice almost always cracks on high notes.) I don't want to take classes though! Or be in choir(I was in choir in 2-4th grade though). Does anyone have advice? Can some1 also teach me warm-up singing excersises? Thanks in advance!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Well there dvds and cds out there that will teach you how to sing.

Look they're not looking for Whitney Houston or even Jennifer Hudson, they want hs kids .

To warm up your voice do scales, you know do re mi so etc. Backwards and forwards and in different keys. Drink some honey and tea before you audition.

Get the cd soundtrack, if you have a friend who plays piano , determine what your range is ,but NEVER strain for a high note. Pick a song from the show that is in your range , then practice it . Put it on a tape recorder and listen to how it sounds. Practice , practice, practice.

Think about the lyrics you're singing, it's telling a story right, so you can't just sing in a monotone voice, you need inflection, to vary your voice.

You've been in choirs so your voice can't be that bad and if it is be grateful you're not auditioning for american idol. Good luck.
