Should I do a solo?

Should I do a solo?

I know none of you have ever heard me sing, so you really can't help me much. But tomorrow our chorus is auditioning for solos that are a couple measures long. Anyway, I have never sang in front of anybody except my chorus teacher. I'm an alto so I'm always worried about my voice cracking in chest voice or when to go to head voice. But I was just wondering, is it worth taking the risk of making a fool of myself in front of my peers?
