Question:

Bharathnatyam is a bit rigid like prose and kathak and oddissi are more like poetry ?

I am not a dancer myself, but it somehow seems that some dance forms are rigid and not fluid like some others

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: My experience with bharathnatyam suggests that, since there is often an element of storytelling (nrtya) to it, it is actually more like prose. Of course, there is also some pure dance (nrtta) to it, so it can be like poetry in this regard, too.

Kathak and Oddissi both tend to lean a bit more towards nrtta, so it stands to reason that they would be a little more fluid. Of course, both Kathak and Oddissi can also include nrtya.

Anyhow, you are correct that some style of dance lend themselves to fluidity and others towards rigidity, so your basic thesis is not without merit.
