1) where were you when it happened!? - I was in Elementary School in upstate NY!. It was not one event but a couple of days of activities!.
2)do you remember it!? - I remember looking up in the sky at night to see if I could see anything in the stars that was moving that might hit me where I lived!.
3)how old you were!? I believe 6th grade!.
4) any other comments you would like to add!. We used to have to practice bomb drills where we would all go into the hall and get down on our knees and bend over putting our hands over our neck to protect our neck and head!. Don't ask me what that would do in the event of nuclear missiles but that's what we did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
This Cuban trouble had been going on for a while!. I was in the 8th grade at the time!. A day came when the trouble seemed worse than it had been - the teachers were real quiet, as I recall!. Around noon we were told to leave school and walk home - go right home!. And so we walked home - nobody talked!. It was pretty scary!. I got home and my mother was listening to the radio - she was all white!. Kennedy was on the radio speaking!. It didn't look real good, I guess!.
It was an interesting set of emotions I had!. We could have all been dead in 20 minutes, and yet I never actually believed it - I don't suppose I could at the time!. And so the next day when the all-clear came through and we weren't going to war, then I remember saying to myself - "told you so"!.
But apparently the world was very close to the end that day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
I was in the Rangers on the shores in Florida waiting for our planes that were warming up, to jump into an area as yet unknown to us!. Finding out later, had the Beaches in Cuba been taken and held for twenty-four hours, we would have gone in a support!.
It was four years later we ended up in Viet Nam instead!. Yes I remember it and was ready to face Russian troops also!.
I was 20 years old at the time, Kennedy was the best!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
