Question: Did the French empty the prisons during the French revolution!? If so, why did they do this !?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The imprisoned French were mostly political prisoner, who were released during the revolution!. These political prisoners would end up helping the revolutionaries immensely!.

I'd think there were also quite a few people, who facing hunger, stole, so they got released as well!. The revolutionaries thought anyone who was imprisoned under the king's reign, should not have been there in the first place!. So they freed them all!. Nice, ha!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
