Question: Historians, this is for you!?
Growing up I've always been told that the life span of people didn't hit 75 until after the 1900's with the invention of modern medicine!. So the 1800 were not all that long ago!. Are there actually enough death certificates to prove the average age of death!? I mean in the Bible the lifespan was said to be an average of 75 years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The life-span of the majority of people - contrary to popular belief - has always been about 75!.

Life-expectancy is quite another thing!. That's the average of how long ALL people live, and that's brought way down by a high rate of infant mortality!. (eg!., Say you were one of three kids in a family, 2 of you lived to be 80, the other lived 3 months!.!.!.Then life-expenctancy would be 80/3 or about 27!.) But, if you lived past your first year of life, you had a very good chance of living to 75!. If you lived to be 20 - having survived the occasional war, famine, plague, or even death from giving birth - then you had an EXCELLENT chance of living to 75!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are plenty of records indicating people's ages at the time of death, and the info goes back quite a few thousand years!. The lifespan mentioned in the bible only accounts for the people who lived in a particular region during a particular period, not for the population of the planet as a whole!. Lifespans have always varied by region, culture and race!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wouldn't take the bible as an accurate census for that time!. also, keep in mind that Jews are known to be sanitary!. Just look at the Bubonic plague outbreak in europe!. Jews where not widely affected by due to their practices and tight knit community and the christians persecuted them for that!. As technology and medicine advanced, people lived longer!. We know now what are the causes of different diseases and we can treat and prevent them!. Not only that, but due to technology, a world is a bit safer for us compared 3000 years ago!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

While the Bible DOES contain some very valid History, it is not exactly a reliable source for the true lifespans of the people mentioned within!. Some Biblical accounts have some humans living for centuries, which is quite far from what the actual evidence tells us!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Would you care to re-phrase your question!. I think the Biblical reference is in respect of Psalms 90!. You have 5 years too many!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
