As they had to register for purely 'peaceful' reasons, maybe more people should do what I do and always refuse to fill out the parts of forms that ask my colour/creed/race!. It may seem harmless but what business is it of the governments/some business!? Even it they're not planning anything dodgy with that info, once the government have it who knows what future administrations may use it for!? And in case anyone thinks that I just do this because I'm of an ethnic minority, I'm actually white british, my family are the same and I live in England!. It's just a point of principle, they shouldn't be asking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Nazis knew a person was Jewish because either 1!. other people told them they were Jewish or 2!. they themselves said they were Jewish!. Many people will stand up and be proud of their religion no matter what the consequence may be!. Some Jews were not harmed because they did not admit to it or followed the Nazis to save the lives of themselves and their families!. It all depended upon the person and the people they knew!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most of the answers are correct in some of the ways Jews were identified-because even though Antisemitism was rampant in Europe at the time, people were not afraid!. Therefore, I give a more specific example which ultimately led to the yellow badge being required to be worn by Jews!.

The first organized boycott of Jewish Businesses was on April 1, 1933, the stores were Identified by a red card placed in the window with a yellow star (at this time people knew what stores had Jewish owers- common knowledge)!. A few days later a popular Jewish newspaper published an article by Robert Welsch a Zionist who wanted to stand up to the persecution!. He wrote-

"The Jew who denies his Judaism is no better a citizen than his fellow who avows it openly!. It is shameful to be a renegade, but as long as the world around us rewarded it, it appeared an advantage!. Now even that is no longer an advantage!. The Jew is marked as a Jew!. He gets the yellow badge!.

A powerful symbol is to be found in the fact that the boycott leadership gave orders that a sign "with a yellow badge on a black background" was to be pasted on the boycotted shops!. This regulation is intended as a brand, a sign of contempt!. We will take it up and make of it a badge of honor!."

This declaration had the opposite effect- facilitating harsher enforcement of resident and movement restrictions of Jews!. It also allowed for an identified Jew to be arrested and detained at any time!. Once this door was opened it couldnt be closed and now the Jews of Germany who complied with this form of resistance were vunerable!. The recongnition had a paralyzing effect on the Jewish community-constantly identifiable and scrutinized, Jews became more docile and responsive to Nazi orders than ever beforeWww@QuestionHome@Com
