http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Leonid_Stad!.!.!.
Leonid Ivanovych Stadnyk , born 1971 in Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine,
was formerly listed as the world's tallest living man according to Guinness World Records!.On August 20, 2008, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, Craig Glenday, announced that the title of world's tallest man had been returned to China's Bao Xishun after Stadnyk refused to be measured under new guidelines, which required him to be independently measured by Guinness World Records adjudicators!.
On August 8, 2007, Guinness book's spokeswoman Amarilis Espinoza stated that in the 2008 edition of the record book, Mr Stadnyk
at 8 ft 5!.2 in, appeared to be taller than Bao Xishun, a native of Inner Mongolia in China who stands 7 ft 8!.9 in!. Although he held the title for a few months, Stadnyk refused to be measured and was consequently denied the GWR recognition!. Stadnyk has never been officially measured by Guinness World Records, only by the "Ukrainian Book of Records" that certifies that he measures 8 ft 3!.6 in and that the doctor originally credited by Guinness with confirming Stadnyk's height has denied ever measuring him!.
Stadnyk's excessive growth began after brain surgery when he was 14 years old!. He developed a pituitary gland tumor which caused the gland to secrete large amounts of growth hormone, resulting in what doctors describe as acromegalic gigantism!. Twenty years after the surgery, the doctors have discovered the tumour had mysteriously disappeared and he is currently healthy!. According to Russian news reports since the Spring of 2006, his health is slowly failing in that he needs to hold on to limbs of trees and the side of his house to walk about!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Robert_Wadl!.!.!.
Robert Pershing Wadlow (February 22, 1918 to July 15, 1940) was a man who, to this day, is the tallest person in medical history for whom there is irrefutable evidence!. Wadlow was noted for having the largest and broadest hands ever in recorded history being capable to hide a 2-litre bottle of soda in them easily!. Wadlow reached 8 feet 11!.1 inches
height and weighed 490 pounds at his death!.
His great size and his continued growth in adulthood was due to hypertrophy of his pituitary gland which results in an abnormally high level of human growth hormone!. He showed no indication of an end to his growth even at the time of his death!.
By 1937, Wadlow had exceeded all previous recorded human heights!.
At age 13, he stood 7 ft 4 in --the world's tallest Boy Scout, averaging a growth of 4 inches per year since birth, wearing size 25 (U!.S!.) shoes!.
At 18, he was 8 ft 4 in , weighed 390 lb , wore a size 37AA shoe that measured 18!.5 inches long!. By age 21, he was 8 ft 9!.5 in , weighed 491 lb , and his hands measured 12!.75 inches from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger!.
In his later years, Wadlow's size began to take its toll: he required leg braces to walk, and had little feeling in his legs and feet!. Despite these encounters, Robert Wadlow never needed to be confined by a wheelchair!. On June 27, 1940 (eighteen days before his death), he was measured at 8 feet 11!.1 inches by doctors C!. M!. Charles and Cyril MacBryde of Washington University School of Medicine in St!. Louis!.
On July 15, 1940, he died in his sleep!. He was 22!. An estimated 40,000 people attended Wadlow's funeral on July 19!. He was buried in a half-ton coffin that required 12 pallbearers to carry, which was interred within a vault of solid concrete!. It was believed that Wadlow's family were concerned for the sanctity of his body after his death, and went to these lengths of security to ensure it would never be disturbed or stolen!.
He is still known affectionately as the "Gentle Giant!."

Guinness World Records has returned the title of world’s tallest man back to him after Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyk took over the title shortly!.
