Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It would have been too easy for Natives to run away, and survive in the woods until they reached other natives!. They knew how to live there, it was where they were from!. Africans found themselves in a new land, with different plants, animals, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com First the Spanish tried that and the Natives would not work as slaves!. European slavers did not go to any great lengths!. They sailed into African ports and bought slaves!. The slavers previously marketed them only to Middle Eastern nations but primarily kept them or traded them with other tribes!. Europeans opened up a whole new market and added incentive to slave but other than that nothing changed aside from the quanity of slaves they took!. With the European ships they just went a little out of thier way down to Africa to collect the slaves!. It was more economical than rounding up Natives so even if Natives were willing to be slaves it was still cheaper for Europeans to tap the already existing African slave trade than to try to capture them theirselves!. Nor was there any tradition of slavery with most Native groups!. With African cultures there was thousands of years of slave tradition!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I asked my history question this exact question and she didnt have an answer but apparently they did at first!. But the natives were hard to rule and generally thought of as savages and well who would want savages around their houses or families!? I guess it was just 'safer' in a sense, for the 'Americans' to use Africans as slaves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The natives had things like tomahawks and bows and arrows, plus a knowledge of woodland warfare and a lot of attitude!. The colonists were so inept that they could barely feed themselves, much less enslave a native, armed race on its home turf!. Read the histories of the Indian wars from 1620 to 1880!. During the French and Indian War the Indians nearly wiped out both sets of whites!.Www@QuestionHome@Com They did at first but, that didn't work for one main reason!. They died of disease that Europeans carried and were immune to!. The Africans lasted longer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Initially they did, just look at the Caribbean islands, the whole native population was wiped out!.
