Question: 1841 census!. Plomesgate union work house!?
On the 1841 census my husbands GGG Grandparents are listed at the work house along with their two children!. On the 1851 census the children are still there and listed as orphans!. After this date I can't find any trace of the girl but the boy obviously managed to get out as he moved to essex and then married and had a family!.

What I would like to know is, under what circumstances would a person have been able to get out of a work house!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The girl most likely would have been found job in service, orphans were not kept in the workhouses when they became of employable age, the boy would probably have been sent somewhere as well!. They wouldn't always have been placed in the immediate local areas, so the girl might have been employed some distance away!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm sure they would be able to leave whenever they wished
