Question: POLL/SURVEY: Who are your three favorite Historical Figures, and why!? :)!?
Here's mine )))

1)Czar Peter the Great - I'm pretty anticlerical and secular just like him, but I also like how he modernized and Westernized an entire society successfully, and also his inquisitive nature!. He supposedly traveled to Western European countries such as Denmark in disguise as a sailor and carpenter, I've heard, to avoid the publicity that comes with a foreign ruler!.

2) Christopher Columbus - I just admire how he took risks and had an independent and free spirit, that changed the world!. He's quite an icon to me :)

3) Franklin D!. Roosevelt - I really admire his leadership during some of the darkest parts of our nation's history and how dedicated he was to restoring America's greatness at home and abroad

My favourite are:

1!. Augustus, the first Roman emperor!. I admire this historical figure because he entered the maelstrom of Roman politics at a very difficult time!. He was just 18 and many shrewd politicians in the Roman senate thought they could exploit his callowness for their own end-little did they know that he would completely outsmart them!. Additionally, he also came out on top against Mark Anthony who was a good general and very popular!. As emperor, he successfully played a senate that hated kings time and time again!. By skillfully refusing power offered to him he gained ever increasing power and status!. Finally, he created the PAx romana which was the most successful period in the history of the greatest empire the world has seen!.

2!. Alexander the Great!.Took over as king at the ripe old age of twenty one and conquered all before him!. Over the next ten years, he and his little band of Macedonians went to the ends of earth and encountered all sorts of different cultures!. Some of the stories surrounding him are almost mythical!. So what I love are the intrepid voyage of Alexander, his mythical status and I also respect his achievements-he was the greatest General the world has known at a very young age!.

3!. Captain Cook!. I like this figure for his bold voyages and intrepid attempts to charter the south pacific!. I think he was a also a very honourable man and treated the cultures he encountered with a tremendous amount of respect(unlike the majority of Brits at the time)Www@QuestionHome@Com
