despite taking Moscow, it was a disaster!. His army of 400,000 nearly died to the man from the winter (they just recently found a mass grave of soldiers from this army in the Baltic)!.

It damaged his reputation in France and really was the beginning of the end for him!.

It was a total failure for Napoleon!. The immediate effect was the loss of around 500,000 soldiers of varying quality!. An army of that size was nothing short of astonishing during the early 1800s!. The other effect was that Europe no longer saw Napoleon as an unbeatable force, they knew he had lost the war in Russia and had lost his seasoned fighting force!. A few months after the invasion of Russia, a Prussian army was conscripted and Prussia declared war on France, followed later by Austria and Sweden!. Napoleon now faced his greatest challenge, fighting Prussia, Russia, and Austria at the same time!. To add to the difficulty was the fact that Napoleon's new army was poorly trained and most of his soldiers were young and inexperienced with the forced marches required!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
