Just a reminder, atrocities have happened all over the world and have happened all throughout history and have included all races of people!. Remember, the many races of the world are watching to see if Black Americans actually go forward with it!.!.!. I feel for the black person in this country and the struggles they have had!. But, first off, no one alive today was a slave in this country!. This country, the United States of America fought against slavery in the civil war!! Remember history, it was the south!. Many black people forget that thousands of white soldiers died to help free them from southern slavery!. We should pay!?!?!?!? That would be an crime!! I don't think it can fairly happen, because then we are penalizing people for having white skin!. Fewer than 2% of the white people in the US today have ancestors who were here before slavery, and of those, only the ancestors of a minority of them owned slaves!. Further, how many black people are descended from slaveowners!? Would they also have to pay reparations to themselves!? Of course not!. However, due to governmental laws preventing black people since the 13th Amendment from fair education and business opportunities, I wouldn't mind if funds were set up for education and small-business start-up money for black Americans!. That said, I'll answer your second question--I would be happy if black people took advantage of programs such as I describe above!. It will do the whole country good if our black fellow countrymen are raised up economically!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Instead of reparations, how about social reform such as ending segregation (yes, it still exists in 2008), changing stereotypes and attitudes regarding blacks, and breaking the glass ceiling in the work place!? So many of my friends who are black have been passed over for promotions or even denied certain positions because of the color of their skin!. They get asked ignorant questions!.!.!. And you're right in that every race has suffered and a lot continue to, so who's going to pay for those!?Www@QuestionHome@Com This is an obscene idea!. Even if an ancestor of mine had slaves, why should I, who never owned nor condoned slavery, pay some random black person who has never been enslaved!? I am white, and my family moved to this country from Sweden after 1900!. Does this make me exempt!? How about Africans pay reperations to African Americans because the Africans were the ones who caught and sold other Africans to white slavers!. Maybe Germans should send the Jews a couple checks in the mail!. Every race at one point or anther has commited atrocities!.
