Question: Does transcendental movement have its roots in romanticism!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
This is one of the general type questions that is not so easy to answer, but it is important to do!.

The Romantic movement in Europe was a reaction against the over scientific, the sterileness of the Enlightenment!. The Enlightenment leaning heavily on empiricism said you could find anything by scientific method!. God is a deist, he set up the clock, and then it could run on its own!.

My belief is that Romanticism believed in gloryifying God by spirit and not logic!. It began in Europe a little before Transcendentalism!. The Transcendentalists, such as Emerson, Thoreau, were not anti-religion!. And they believed that facts and science should not be worshipped as gods!. They were reacting against an Enlightenment in the United States in which materialism had become more important than spirit!. Paintings of the time show this attempt to regain spirit against a scientific dogmatism!. So my answer would be yes it did have roots in romanticism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In the US it does, keeping in mind that it's tricky to define romanticism!. Emerson would be a transcendental writer and he comes straight out of the romantic era!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
