More than likely money, a good time slot and some freedom over what he is doing and power within the organization!. Both CNN and FNC are respected news organizations and have good viewership!. Robert Novak is a "name" in television news!. It's not far off to think of these names the same way you would think of top free agents in sports!. The owners of MSNBC, CNN and FNC actively bid on the top names to get them on their channels, since names drive ratings, which, in turn, drive the cost of ad space and revenues!.

So my guess is that FNC offered Novak a better package than CNN did!. It may not have been more money, per se, but a better time slot and more control over his programming than CNN was willing to give!. Or, it may have been more money!. It may have been a title, such as vice president, with the perks that come with that title!. And, this happens every day in a large number of occupations!. The top players are actively courted by competitors who seek to hire them away from their current employers!. Now, neither Novak nor FNC would probably not be as crass to say these factors were the prime considerations in his move, but it would greatly surprise me if the public reasons were the real reasons for the move!.

As far as ideology is concerned, MSNBC is on the left, CNN is in the middle and FNC is on the right!. My impression of Novak is that he is right-center, so he would have a natural fit at either CNN or FNC!. But, even so, MSNBC has conservatives on its staff and FNC has liberals on its staff (CNN also has both)!. There is the need, particularly for talk news shows, for someone who can make the cogent counter-argument to the prevailing sentiment!. Tension is what sells!. A liberal on a conservative channel or a conservative on a liberal channel creates tension!. This creates viewers, which turns into rating, which turns into ad revenue!.

I was watching the night Novak walked off CNN!. He was upset with James Carville teasing him!. The teasing went back and forth between the two and was a draw for CNN!. But for some reason Novak became miffed!. It was later Fox picked him up!. I am sure Novak thought the liberals were ganging up on him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
