Question: British Artillery in the American Revolution!?
What was the deployed overseas artillery strength and organization to North America!. I understand there were 4 battalions of 8 companies each but were british artillery units deployed as battalions or companies to north america!?

I have found the strenght of artillery at the onset of the american revolution but I can't find how much the british artillery increased during the revolutionary period, anyone know the source on this!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your best source would be British military records (if they still exist)!. You will want to look at the quarter masters requisition forms and double check that the shipments actually made it to the war!. Some were probably captured en route, some were probably lost at sea in storms; but most, likely, made it to the war zone!.

Artillery was of little use in most battles of the Revolutionary Wars!. The cannons were difficult to move and ineffective against spread out forces!. The cannons were much better against structures (ships and buildings) or concentrated forces!. Even grapeshot and canister (which both gave a shotgun effect), you pretty much had to have a clear shot at target!.

The real worry was when the artillery fell into the colonists' hands!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do know Americans did steal alot of British artillery and guns!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
