Further, Latin Americans would have a more hopeful future!. For US slaves, slavery was hereditary!. For the Latin American ones, their children were free and there was no segregation!. I think slavery had ended in Latin America around 1800 - remember that this was a problem between Mexico and Texas in the Texas revolt of the 1830s!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Starting from the premise that all slaves were cruelly treated, there were differences in the strategies used!. The Spanish and the Portuguese allowed them to celebrate religious holidays and perform their music and dance, and during Mardi Gras they could dress in costumes!. In Haiti, the French gave their name to the children they had with slaves, freed them, educated them and allowed them to inherit property!. The British were the most rigid regarding African religious practices, dance or musical expression, and very rarely acknowledged their offspring!.
