At the time that Hitler came to power, Germany was governed under rules set out in the Constitution of the Weimar Republic!.

In the late 1920's and early 1930's, the National Socialist (Nazi) party started gaining more seats in the Bundestag (similar to House of Representatives)!. They had enough seats that they could force a new election any time they wanted it!. Each time they did this, they gained more seats!.

In 1932, the Nazi party was the largest party in the Bundestag!. President Hindenburg was pressured into appointing Hitler as Chancellor of Germany, the second highest office in the country!. Hindenburg died in 1933!. The normal procedure at the time would have been a new election!. Instead, Hitler convinced the Bundestag to pass a motion making him ruler for life!. The Bundestag then voted itself out of existance, leaving Hitler as a dictator with no oversight!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if i had to make a flow chart, this is how i would map it out!. but of course there are different historians who have different points of view!.

1!. it started with the versailles treaty after WWI!. they completely blamed germany for the war and made them disarm and pay reparations!. (when hitler came to power, he wanted to win the war so germany could be a victorious nation)
2!. the economic situation in the years after the war was terrible!. there was a world wide depression and germany was hit much harder than other countries, like the United States!. this made it easy for him to come to power!. he said he would help the economy, and it actually did improve under hitler!.
3!. he gained more and more support!. he said he would help the economy!. he blamed the jews for germany's misfortune!. he became really popular!.
4!. since he had become so popular, he was appointed chancellor of germany!. they also appointed more nazi party representatives in the government!.

He was arrested and prisoned on November 1923 for high treason for 5 years, but came after 2!. He used this to tell Germany about his ideas!. And while he was in prison he wrote a book called "Mein Kampf" (My Struggle)!. A lot of Germans supported his ideas!.

He then used the SA and SS to get support and to raid other political party's meetings!. He used Joseph Goebbels, an expert on propaganda to help get support!. Hitler and his party won the German election in 1933 and Hitler became Chancellor, because he promised to get Germany out of the financial crisis and make Germany great!. The German President, Hindenburg, died in 1934 and Hitler declared himself as Chancellor and President, calling himself the Fuhrer!. This position gave Hitler enough power to get more and turn Germany into a full dictatorship!.

Germany was falling apart from WWI, where they were blamed and had to pay reparations and follow the Treaty of Versailles!. Germany went into a depression with so much poverty and people suffering!. The country was humiliated by the Treaty of Versailles, which punished Germany economically, militarily and politically for WWI!. They had massive inflation and unemployment!.

National Socialists won the elections democratically and sorted the country out, building up modern military forces, unhampered by the old forces (that had been ripped apart)!.

The tone taken by the party was ultra nationalistic- with lots of flags and an unprecedented use of modern media to inspire the people to support their cause!.
Their spin doctors made logos, films, statues and constructed stadia and public buildings!.

They annexed some territories that they felt had been unjustly taken by the Treaty of Versailles (Sudatenland), Joined in the Spanish Civil War (on the winning side), invaded Poland, then France and most of Europe!.
To facilitate this, they used the new tactics of blitzkrieg which basically involved mobile units bypassing strongholds and assaulting other targets with a combination of precision bombing (stukas) and fast moving tanks with infantry support!.

Countries tend to do better economically when there's a war on, especially when they're winning!.

The attempt to invade Britain by a combined air/ beach assault (Operation Sealion) was thwarted by their failure to gain air superiority (The Battle of Britain)- they didn't realise how thinly stretched the RAF were!.

Their successful armies in North Africa (Afrika Corps) were stopped in their tracks by a combination of British and commonwealth troops (El Alamein), leading to a loss of oil supplies from the Middle East!.

They turned instead Eastwards and broke a non aggression pact they'd previously had with the USSR!.
