How did the United States gain control of Hawaii?

Question: How did the United States gain control of Hawaii!?

I was watching a show on the history channel and i wondered: "if Hawaii is closer to Japan, why is it not owned by Japan!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

The British were the first power to discover Hawaii!. Some Brits settled there!. Later Americans settled there and took over the place!. The same method was used in Texas and California!. During this era one of the Intelligent things Canada did was not to allow settlers in from the United States!. Otherwise the same thing could have happened to our country as well!. The United States was formed in part by taking land from Canada and Mexico, buying it from France ( once they realized they could not hold on to it anyway) , buying it from Russia and winning it in a war with Spain!.The Indians do not count but that is a different story!.Power politics and might makes right!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hawaii was annexed by the United States on august 21, 1959, by William McKinley!. It's not a part of Japan because the U!.S!. annexed it, the same way that Alaska is closer to Canada or Russia but is owned by the United States!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
