Question: What if the Japanese had not bombed Pearl Harbor!?
If the Japanese had not bombed Pearl Harbor, would the US have entered the war and would the outcome be very different!? Would they also have taken part in D Day in massive numbers!? Would they also have dropped the A bombs!? For that matter, would the B29 have been developed!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Japanese attacking Pearl Harbour didn't directly trigger Americas entry into the World War, it was Germany's declaration of war on America, in support of Japan that did that!.

Its arguable if America would have entered the 'European' war without Germany's declaration of war, despite the governments wish to get involved there was a significant and vocal anti war element int he states (some ex german nationals, some facists, but mostly isolationists, there were also some anti British elements (mainly Irish or of Irish extraction who wanted to see Britain destroyed))!. It spossible the increasing loss of US life in shipping attacks may have tipped the tide of public opinion, but we will never ever know

Would they have developed the atomic bomb!.!. probably, several countries including Britain and Germany were all developing an atomic bomb

Would they have developed the B29, again probably, although not as quickly, military equipment tends to get designed and delivered a lot quicker in wartime than peacetime for obvious reasons (one there is a customer prepared to pay, there is a requirement for equipment and there is a need to develop new equipment in the light of experience gained)!.

However even if the Japanese hadn't attacked pearl Harbour I think the US would have responded to other Japanese actions in the Philippene's and elsehwere!. after all the US had started to blockade and attempt to ring fence Japan after its actions in China from 1935 on!.

Unless they were fully involved in a European war America would have had none of its personnel on any of the D-Days that happened in Europe (except for those who were detached on observation missions seeing how invasions were done)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Japan had no choice but to go to war or submit to the will of Roosevelt!.
Had Japan decided to submit, then they would have been required to withdraw there forces from most of China and seek a ceasefire agreement with China!.
This limits it's possibilities to trying to get oil and other war materials from it's allis Germany and Italy!. Germany would have required for these resources that Japan launch an offensives against the USSR!. This might have been a real possibility since in the defense of Moscow in 1941 the USSR moved the majority of its forces to defend Moscow and the Japanese theater of operations relatively bare!. The Japanese ability to fight and a war against USSR would have been very costly and severely taxed the Japanese government and people!.
Without Japan's attack and Germany's declaration of war against the USA it would have been very difficult to get the USA involved!.
So chances are that their would not have been a D Day and Britain would have exhausted herself in the war until it sought terms with Germany!. The key would have been if Germany would have been able to defeat the USSR!. I think Germany would have welcomed peace in order to fully exploit it's conquests and build it's thousand year Reich!. All parties would have welcomed a break so that they could regroup and recoup!. With Europe and Russia under Axis control Britain would not be able to defeat the Axis powers, even with help from the USA!. Only with full US envlovlment would Britian stand a chance against the Axis!. And chances are the German would have developed the A bomb first and put it on a v1-v2 rocket!.
The present would be very different from what it is now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbour, the Germans had begged the Japanese to attack Russia from the east!. The Russians had moved all their armaments factories east in the face of the German advance!. Had the Japanese done what the germans had asked, then Russia would have been defeated!. This would have allowed the Germans to develop the atomic bomb first, thus giving a very different outcome to the second world war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
