Yes there were rifles on both sides, including a unit of the British army armed exclusively with Ferguson's breech loading rifle, but rifles were slow to load, however accurate they may have been, and since the tactics of the age were based on throwing sheets of lead at one anothe and a smooth bore musket could be loaded and fired three times for every one rifle shot, the rifle was of limited useWww@QuestionHome@Com

this is the american war of independence right!. I beleave the British Empire had rifles and many other types, but the revolotionarys not so much as the british were far better eqiped, but the USA had what ever guns they could get had France and Spain with, there are so many wepans used in the war of indepence, check on wikipedia!.
