Question: British 18th Century Regiment of Foot Organization!?
Regarding the Regiments of Foot specifically used in the American Revolution!.!.!.!.

How was a regiment primarily organized, I am understanding by company, but am a little confused as to the way "Battalions" were organized within the regiment!.!.!.!?

How did supply or Quarter Master organization make out, were QM units directly organic to the Regiment of Foot, or did they make up independent QM companies/Regiments!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its essentially unanswerable; the regiment is an administrative & recruiting body to which any number of men, guns & supporting assets can be attached!. They are permanent and linked to the area from which they recruit but not to any particular tactical strength (though they may have a tactical specialism!.)

Peacetime practice has always been to have c!. a battalion with an excess strength of admin, command (half pay officers in the past) & support assets to allow expansion as required, potentially to dozens of battalions!. For example regiments in WWI were equal in manpower to divisions of the time!.
The idea was that new battalions with no history & consequent "esprit de corps" did not need to be manufactured in time of war!.
