In the decade of the 1840s, more than 1!.7 MM immigrants arrived in the U!.S!. Key drivers were Irish famine (bringing people from Ireland), upheaval in Europe (bringing people from France, England and Germany), Mexican-American War (making Mexicans part of the U!.S!.) and the California Gold Rush (heavy immigration from around the world)!.
