The Depression in the US caused economic problems globally, so most of Europe was financially a mess too!. Part of why Hitler came to power in Germany was that he promised change that the people were (literally) starving for!.

So, The Great Depression caused WWII, and WWII in turn helped the US get out of the Great Depression!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The depression set the stage for the war by making people desperate, and then when messianic charismatic leaders like Italy's Mussolini or Germany's Hitler stepped in with promises of ways to regain normalcy and dignity, they were quickly awarded power!. The depression destabilized lots of Western Countries, in fact!. Poor and starving and unemployed people are desperate, and anything seems better than the course they found themselves on!. Just as an example, in both France and the US!. both Communism and Fascism grew strong on blaming the current system and promising solutions to the crisis!. FDR helped to defuse the threat of Communist revolution in the US by moving toward socialism with the SPA and the "Alphabet Soup" make-work projects!. Those projects, funded by deficit spending at the Federal level, put people back to work, and helped kick start the economy slightly!. In a sense, Hitler did the same thing, moving to socialism with a fierce anti-Communist bent, and spending money on road construction and a secretive expansion of the military, thus helping the average German!.

You might also note that it's the outbreak of the war which really puts an end to the depression!. By early 1940, with the fighting in Europe going on and all European arms factories working full time, the US began to tool up for war, upgrading weapons systems, buying new fighters and bombers and the like, and selling or leasing them to the British and other allies!. While FDR's projects had helped somewhat, the shift to a wartime economy is what really killed off the Great Depression!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
