Some events people in the world courts of 1500 would have been talking about:

Ludovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan, was caught at Novara by the French king Louis XII, after running him out of Milan!. His army of Swiss mercenaries did not want to fight their Swiss brethren (fighting likewise for the French king), and turned him over to the French!. Ludovico died in captivity!. (a note to the Pope, don't trust the Swiss Guard!!!)

also in 1500, in November of that year the Treaty of Granada split the Kingdom of Naples between Louis XII of France (was a busy year for him) and Ferdinand II of Aragon!. Italians throughout the mezzogiorno collectively curse their new overlords and go on with business as usual

In what must be said to be a very horrible year to be Italian, the Venetians, for a few years involved in the Ottoman-Venetian Wars, lost at the Second Battle of Lepanto when their fleet was defeated by a Turkish fleet!. The Ottomans took possession of several Greek islands including the important outposts of Modon and Coron!.

In Japan, an old emperor dies, Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado!. He ruled longer than most emperors and ran the treasury dry during decades of war!. The new emperor, his son Go-Kashiwabara, was left with no money to pay for a funeral ceremony until the money was donated a month later!.

Pedro Alvares Cabral discovered Brazil and claimed it for Portugal!.

The peasant's republic of Dithsmarschen in Denmark successfully held off greedy nobles at the Battle of Hemmingstedt in 1500!. For decades nobility and their mercenaries tried to take over the tiny republic, and in 1559 these small farmer's dreams were crushed by King Frederick II and his loyal dukes when they finally took over the republic and made it a part of Schleswig-Holstein
