You have the story a bit wrong!. They concluded that G-d was guilty, not dead!. Yes, it actually happened--and Elie Weisel was a witness!. See below!.

Why did they then pray!? That's a very Jewish thing to do!. The answer is rather simple, in a sense!. What else could they do!? Even though they found G-d "guilty"--and the word that was actually used is better translated as "G-d owes us something", G-d was and is still G-d!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We've actually learned a lot about this stuff in my Nazi Germany and the Holocaust class!.

They figured that God was "dead" because of all the stuff that was going on because of the Nazi party, such as the work, death, and concentration, camps jews were sent too!. Nazis did horrible things such as forcing jews to burn jews, using babies for target practice, and many others!. They also dehumanized the jews to such an extent, that they just figured if such bad and evil is going on right now, why is god letting it happen!? Thus, they stopped believing!. But then, once they were liberated, this gave them more hope so they may have gained some of their faith back and started practicing their religion!. You've gotta believe in something, ya know!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Mark S: "G-d owes us something"

If this is true, then He delivered!.

There are theologians who claim that the Holocaust is just a modern-day Babylonian exile - as punishment for sins!. In their release from the Babylonian exile, the Jewish people were restored to their promised homeland, Jerusalem!. Likewise, after the Holocaust the Jewish people were also restored to their promised homeland - in the newly created Nation of Israel!.

If you asked the question "Would the Nation of Israel exist today without the Holocaust!?", the answer would be "No"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm sure that their prayer to God was answered for the ones who survived this travesty!. also the ones that weren't found or killed by the Nazis were praying a lot as well!. The World should have been on trial for not helping bomb the railways to Auschwitz and whatnot!. The World knew enough to do something to help more, but stood aside and waited too long!. Only the Ruskies broke the Nazi line and pushed the Nazis back out of Poland until the rest of the Allies captured Berlin and the rest!. I'm sure the Jews were royally pissed (I think I would be) that nothing was done earlier and that is why they may have pronouced that "God was dead"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

cuz God isn't dead!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
