I used to work all over the world before I retired!. In the USA I felt at home (more or less) whilst in any other European country I felt very much an outsider!. You tend to "buddy-up" with people who are like you!. That's pretty much it I think!.Www@QuestionHome@Com We don't, Britain didn't fight in Vietnam!. America didn't fight in the Falklands War!. America and Britain were on the same side in both World Wars!. In WWI the sinking of Lusitania and the German promise to help Mexico invade Texas, Arizona and California brought America into the war!. In WWII the Axis declared war on the US!. But even before then, the US was supplying Britain with raw materials to fight the Axis, as Britain was the last remaining democracy in Europe!. If Britain was forced out of the war, then Europe and North Africa would have fallen!. There would have been no D-Day, no invasion of Sicily, no Kohima, no Chindits!. The Germans would have had a clear passage into Asia, and a gateway to link up with the Japanese!. We both fought in Korea, along with the rest of the UN!. Infact a British regiment, the Glosters earned a DUC at Imjin River!. We both fought in the 1st Gulf War, along with other nations!. There are more than just British and Americans in Afghanistan!. That just leaves Iraq, and there were more than just British and Americans involved there!. Infact Australia were involved until June 2008!. As for the war of 1812!. It started as an American invasion of Canada, and ended as a British/Canadian invasion of America!. The Treaty of Ghent settled the war, under its terms the former territories of the US and Canada were restored!. That meant that the British/Canadians gave Maine back to America, and sold them some white paint at a discount for a make over at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue ( or the Whitehouse as its been known since 1814) By not even a vast work of imagination did the US win the war of 1812!. Plus it was only a side show for Britain who were more interested in the Penninsula War!. Britain is bound to have won more wars than the US!. In one form or another, we have been around for much longer!. Not only that, we fought alot of wars against the French, and had more civil wars!. All that aside, we are good friends with the US, and there are still Americans who are descendants of British migrants who are still in contact with their British relatives!. There are cultural differences between us, the Americans can struggle to know when we are joking or being serious!. Many Americans don't get sarcasm, which can be a problem when dealing with Brits, because our sarcasm can often come across with more venom than what was intended!.
