The "North" had many advantages over the Confederacy!. The confederacy wanted to cede from the union (break away from the rest of the united states and become their own country, which of course is their constitutional right) however, the rest of the union (the united states) didn't want this to happen, so the war began!. Eventually it became about freeing slaves too (Abraham Lincoln actually didn't really care about Slave freedom, it was a political stunt to gain support!. Read the Guittysburg address, the only slaves that were "freed" were the ones in states not occupied by the Union soldiers, basiclly, the states where they had no back up!. If a slave from say, Florida, said "oh, well Mr!. Lincoln said I'm free!" to his "master" all the master had to point out was "O, where are the soldiers to back you up!?" the slaves in states occupied by Union soldiers were kept enslaved for a few more years) so, Mr!. Lincoln, the founder of the Republican party (interesting how issues with racism and slavery seem to revolve around that party!.!.!.) needed to get the support of the north to fight this war, so he made it a war about slavery, and offered freedom to any colored man who would serve in the military!. That was one advantage the north had, they had men fighting for a cause, even if it was false (sort of like whats going on in Iraq!.!.!.make the people think they are accomplishing something, and they'll fight blindly) then there was also the funding!. With the U!.S!. government on their side for $, the south never had a chance!. PLus all the natural resources/thriving industries the north had, it was because of the civil war that clothes/shoe makers began making standard sizes for fast, cost saving production, the south still had all their clothing hand made!. Food and medicine (though rationed and scarce at times for both sides) was more plentiful for the north, who had access to all the crops produced by the midwest and natural foods from the pacific northwest and north east (seafood, shelfish etc)!. Hi

The north defeated the south in the civil war for many reasons be them industrial or human!.

The North had far superior resources to the south, the north had:

3 times more farm acreage compared to the south!.
14 times more factory production value compared to the southern states!.
14 times more textile goods production!.
25 times more naval shipping tonnage!.
2!.4 times more railroad mileage!.
9 times more Merchant shipping tonnage!.
1!.5 times more livestock!.
4!.2 times more wheat production!.
2 times more corn production!.
32 times more firearms production!.
15 times more iron production!. The north owned 94% of US pig iron!.
38 times more coal production!.
3 times more overall wealth!.
The North also had 2!.5 times the population the Southern states had!.

Overall the only thing the South had more than the north was cotton, 24 times more cotton than the North!. Unfortunately for them you cant use cotton to win a war!. The south also had better equipped and more experienced generals such as Robert!.E!.Lee and "Stonewall" Jackson, when Jackson was killed the southern states became vulnerable to attacks from the north!.

The North had better leadership compared to the South with Lincoln as President, Lincoln possessed a gift in preparing powerful speeches such as the Gettysburg Address which boosted northern morale, Lincoln also delivered an important speech to the people of Maryland who were pro- slavery, making them change their ways and views and join the North!.On the other hand Jefferson Davis who was the President of the Confederacy or Southern States could not delegate with his cabinet ministers who made government decisions!. Davis also had a short temper which often made him make ineffective decisions on the spot!.

I hope that helped!.

1!. The North had a more stable government than the South, which was on states' rights and there were more Union sympathizers in the South than Confederate sympathizers in the North!. While Lincoln had to worry about picking a good general to win the war, controlling his Cabinet, dealing with his wife's spending habits and sons' welfare, and figure out how to keep the border states from seceding to the Confederacy, Davis had to worry about all the states seceding from the Confederacy!.

2!. The North was richer, more industrialized, and more populated than the South and could replace any numbers of troops lost while the South could not and the war was fought on their turf!. also, the North had a great network of transportation that made it easier to transport goods than the South and Chase had an excellent method to finance the war despite economic difficulties!.

3!. The North had a naval blockade from the East Coast to the Gulf of Mexico, that made any Southern ship leaving the harbor next to impossible without being bombed!. Most of the port cities were in the north!. The South barely had a navy at all!. also, the North was able to keep potential Southern allies out of the conflict because of the blockade and immense resources Europeans needed at the time!.

In addition to the reasons given in the first answer, the Southern states also could never effectively work together as well as the North!. Because of their emphasis on states' rights, the Confederate government could not force states to send troops where they were needed!. As a result, many southern states kept a large portion of their troops at home for defensive purposes instead of sending them to Virginia or other hot spots where they could have been more useful!. In a nutshell, they had more industrial resources, and more soldiers!.

The South was agrarian, and the North was industrial!.

Telling you any more would be helping you cheat on your homework!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The simple answer is that the north had superior numbers in both manpower and materials!. The south had better generals but you can't replace a better general who has been killed!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

the north was richer, they had more weapons, and also as they went more southern, winning battles, they destroyed the south, destroying, food supplies and such!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
