I'll guess your favorite was jousting!.

I'm partial to sword/ax and shield the way the Vikings did it!. Little or no armor, almost ritualistic!. At least as a spectator!.

In recreation sword fights I prefer Florintine!. I have never been able to use a shield effectively!. Love the double weapon approach!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I wouldn't be inclined to make a judgement ; the earliest thorough treatise on such issues are very late medieval so the realities of medieval combat are only to be hypothesised!. Early-high accounts of battle tend to be eulogistic and unhelpful!. Howevere, certain elements do hold a special interest!.
I'd certainly be interested to see more of the high-late type man-at-arms foot combat; fighting with short, heavy pole-arms is impossible to recreate with any degree of safety, so we really have no idea how this was carried out - did they "maintain distance" with the point or trust their armour and go in swinging!?
Maybe early shieldwall as well; many competing views on just how close-order/disciplined such formations were - which really questions their fighting value - are we looking at a shin stabbing rabble or a low-rent phalanx!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The most effective was probably the use of the war bow (Longbow) which saw English and Welsh armies win battles, in the Hundred Years War, despite being heavily outnumbered!.

The Longbow was more powerful than a musket, more accurate, and had a higher rate of fire!. Its downside was that it took years to become skilled with it, and 8 hours daily practice was required to maintain an effective skill and strength level required for the battlefield!.

i honestly prefer sword to spear fighting, mainly because the spear has a far range advantages, yet the sword has close range advantages>Www@QuestionHome@Com
