Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
About the only thing that Hamilton and Jefferson agreed on was American Independence!. Jefferson wanted the government to stay small and do as little as possible!. Hamilton wanted to make the US government big and carry a huge debt!.
The civil war:
Jefferson would not have agreed with Slavery but would have agreed with the Southern States' right to leave!. Hamilton would have advocated crushing the rebellion at its earliest opportunity and treating the rebelling states like conquered enemy provinces!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's funny that when people think of Jefferson and his views on government, they only recognize his pre-presidency stance on the matter!. It's true that prior to his becoming President,he was very much in favor of state's rights superseding that of federal government!. But, once in office, he quickly came to see the light when he realized just how limited the power of the federal government was -- it was almost paralyzing!. Jefferson was forced to break from his pre-presidency stance as well as Washington's isolationist policy and had to deal with piracy against U!.S!. shipping and citizens traveling abroad!.

On matters such as the Civil War, I can only guess that he would have been deeply distraught at the idea of the Southern states breaking from the union!.

It wasn't until shortly after his death that anyone took an active interest in preserving or honoring those who'd fought in the Revolution!. Popular memory and history don't often go hand in hand!. People did not celebrate the 4th of July as we do now!. I suspect that he and Hamilton, would be honored, but worried at the interpretations and lack of historical fact surrounding their time and thier legacy!. Seems the "Supreme" Court has really moved away from both the letter and the spirit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
