Basically, for the same reasons the Holocaust happened in the first place -- unreasonable and unfounded hatred of Jews!. Because of this, they believe any wild theory that comes along!.

There are those writers out there that try to downplay the impact of the Reich's crimes against humanity!. There is no doubt to the events of history and the legitimate estimates of casualties have been very consistent since about 1951!. There is no means to erase these crimes against humankind!. Unfortunately, there are those conservative writers that call themselves "Revisionists" who try to amend the stories of history!.
To do this, they base their arguments from writings of biased or uninvolved 3d parties!. Another popular technique is to use selective text and deliberately leave out important words or phrases!. These "editors" can take answers and match them to unrelated questions, and use edited comments out of context!. Sometimes they blatantly change the quote to fit their position (see Rush Limbaugh's editing staff for current use of that technique)

Anti-Semitic writers like Fredrick Toben, David Irving, and William Pelley claimed that the SS only rounded up only homosexuals and known criminals, while current while there are current US political figureheads like Phyllis Shaffley (Eagle Forum), Rev Jonathan Williams/James Wickstrom (Christian Identity), and Thomas Robb (Klan) have attempt to downplay the number of victims (by like 1/100th of the real casualty rate)!.

Please understand that the German people did not have any issues with Jewish (or any other) races!. They had been victimized by the Nazi party's media blitz: notably Gobbels and the Reich's propaganda machine!. The lies told (repeatedly) about the Jewish people had been magnified by mass saturation using the radio, billboard, newspaper, magazine, cartoons, and even the fledgling movie industry!. Popular talk radio in America still has echos of those big lies told by the Nazis [ see James Wickstrom - "Hannity's soulmate of Hate" ]!. Note that the media techniques being used today seems to parallel the techniques used by the Nazis!. Why does history have to repeat itself !?

Some conservative sects of the Muslim faith attempt to play on false differences between the Torah and the Koran!. These Mullahs seem to miss out on the fact that the Koran is based on the Law (Torah) and that both groups are sons of Abraham!. Those Mullahs have not always echoed calls of sympathy for the crimes of the Holocaust, but they have not discounted the events nor understate the numbers of deaths!.

These people resent the West and are more likely to refuse to believe whatever Western countries say about historical events!.

The Holocaust did exist, it was the Nazi German Governments pogrom for the systematic enslavement, torture, and murder of some 12 million Europeans(NOT just jews)!.

Holocaust deniers make headway because they can legitimately point out that the claims that Jews were the ONLY group targeted is completely false!. French, Dutch, Gypsy, Polish, Czechoslovakian, Russian, homosexuals and retarded people combine for more than half of those killed according to German Records(The Germans were fanatical for keeping accurate records) between 4!.5 and 5!.8 million(according to various sources) Jews were killed in Nazi German camps!. When these holocaust deniers make a claim that can be proven to be true(more non-jews died), then that lends further credence to the other things that they say which are completely false!.

The way you defeat these moronic people is to tell the whole truth all of the time, not just a portion of the truth in order to engender sympathy for a portion of the people!.

Do not forget, ever, the fate of those 12 million people, but do not place the horrific fate of the 5 million Jews above and beyond the same horrific fate of the other 7 million non-jews who died by the same hands!. Their human dignity demands that their fate not be forgotten!.
