Question: Did Patton actually say, "The Germans have not mounted a winter offensive since Fredrick the Great!."!?
In the movie Patton starring George C!. Scott there was a scene when 'Patton' was in his headquarters dressed in pajamas and robe and talking to his aide!. In the movie after he made this quote, he mobilized his division which was quartered for Christmas!. Then the Germans attacked and started the Battle of the Bulge!. In the meeting with Gen!. Eisenhower, Patton said he has x number of troops ready to go and surprised everyone!. Did Patton actually make the quote about Fredrick the Great or is it something for the movie!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

There's no way to know!.

However, it's entirely plausible that he did, as his forces were the only ones prepared to march!. Before he left for the staff meeting with General Walter Bedell "Beetle" Smith (not Eisenhower, as you stated), Patton gave his staff orders to disengage and prepare for a swift move north!.

These are facts!. What he actually said is conjecture, but is entirely plausible given what he did, and also his vast knowledge of military history!.

Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
