Question: Anyone know who said this about poverty and cars!?
There is a quote that goes something like this: The United States will be the first country to drive itself into poverty in an automobile"!. I heard this attributed to someone in a movie released in 1940 but can't find anything on it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The closest I could find at the moment is:

If a working class Englishman saw a bloke drive past in a Rolls-Royce, he'd say to himself "Come the social revolution and we'll take that away from you, mate"!. Whereas if his American counterpart saw a bloke drive past in a Cadillac he'd say "One day I'm going to own one of those"!. To my way of thinking the first attitude is wrong!. The latter is right!. - Kerry Packer

EDIT I FOUND IT !!

"We are the first nation in the history of the world to go to the poorhouse in an automobile!." - Will Rogers

He said this during the Great Depression and passed away in 1935!. There were a few movies that were done in the 1940's that had other actors playing Will Rogers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know who said it, but given the current state of the Big Three and the economy, it looks like it's coming true!.!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
