This is one of those areas where I feel using the PC term African American is confusing!. I am not sure if you mean African people or Black Americans!. I suppose it is only confusing because of the reference to Mandela!.

As far as world wide influence, I would lean toward Mandela!. Much of his campaign for freedom came during the beginning of the global 'information age'!. The entire world watched the unfolding of this world history!. Our distance from him also made it hard to pick at his humanity and incongruities!.

King, on the other hand, made a tremendous impact and one can hardly mention Civil Rights without invoking his name or posterity or being sued by the family for doing so!. He was the right guy at the right time to do what he did!. I believe his social principles and Christian upbringing helped this joining of purpose and timing!. King, however, was a man that so many knew and had met personally causing his enemies to gain momentun when others could corroborate the other's dislikes!.

World benefit-Mandela!. U!.S!. benefit-King!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

King!. Both are strong men and it was inevitable that segregation was going to end!. I like Mandela but hes not the strong speaker that King was; no disrespect to Mandela, he was a great litigator!. King was brought up in the church environment!. King was born to be a speaker!. Have you ever read the Letter from Birmingham Jail, it is magnificent writing!. King also move America which by far bigger than South Africa per capita and that alone should answer your question!. If you are asking the influences and history of the two individuals its hard to compare the two because of the different environment they lived in, but share the same goal to desegregate a nation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Martin Luther King Jr

He was a great speaker who showed that change could be made through protest without violence and because of that gained access to the leaders of the country, and because of his passion for right over wrong managed to convince ordinary people that change was needed to ensure equal rights for all!.
