Question: How was the issue of constitutional interpretation resolved in the early years of the American Republic!? !?

In other words, who would have the ability to determine if a law violated the constitution!? Where did Jeffersonians believe the power to strike down laws as unconstitutional should reside!? What were the Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions!?

In early years, the constitutional interpretation is considered a problem!. Interestingly, in a way, it was never really a problem!. Federalists wanted loose interpretation while Jeffersonians wanted strict!. However, Jefferson did follow loose interpretation on becoming the president!.
Mostly, it was Supreme Court, especialy under Judge Marshall, which saved and guarded the constitution, and they have the right to maintain checks and balances!. Jeffersonians believed in states' rights that states can decide what law to use or not!. Virginia and Kentucky resolutions were passed by state legislatures against Alien and Sedition acts by John Adams!. Virginia was James Madison and Kentucky was Jefferson!. the latter abolished Alien and Seditin acts after becoming the prez!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
